ssam, vegetable leaf wraps, is a unigue eating style of the korean diet which is loved by many koreans. ssam is spoonfuls of rice wrapped in wide leaves, such as lettuce, chinese cabbage, sesame leaves, fresh seaweed and dried laver with soybean paste.

Excellent service, awesome foods.
Great place for sit down and share food with couple of friend. A well stocked bar with nice selection of spirits. Great customer service. Expect a wait time during peak hours.
MoreEverything is delicious, but their fries are the best
Cool spot that I randomly walked by. The menu looked great and the happy hour item selection was great value. Got the Seoul hot chicken sandwich and the wings. Would highly recommend both. Would love to go back and try more things.
MoreA preferred scene for delicious Korean food. Bring your hunger - portions are generous.
MoreScrumptious place! Pictured is their tofu bibimbap but their fried chicken sandwich is a near-holy experience!
MoreStopped in here for dinner on a rather chilly night and as I walked in the place immediately stole my heart with the idyllic lighting and rustic setting. I enjoy Korean cuisine very much and have had plenty while living in NYC, so expectations were high. One thing I've noticed that stays consistent across all non-NYC-based korean restaurants, is that banchan is not included with the meal. And banchan is the backbone of any Korean meal!Anyways, I ordered the Rice Cake Dumpling Soup from their menu, a seasonal dish(?), and was pleased with the presentation. Lots of color and a sizable portion. Yet, the flavors were too mild and a tad bit salty for my preference. My partner did enjoy his Bulgogi Burger and "perfectly cooked" fries. That mayo blend dipping sauce made the fries all the more addicting.Overall, we had an enjoyable dinner and hope to try the other dishes out next time we're here!
MoreBurger was amazing. Good selection of drinks.
One of the best happy hour food specials in Philadelphia. The Seoul Hot Chicken Sandwich is massive, and an absolute steal at only $7, and my friend said the Bulgogi Burger was excellent as well. Great drink specials like a rotating $4 "Mystery Beer", as well as multiple varieties of house-made soju. Friendly staff, and good movies on the TVs. I'm going to be going back many many times
MoreThis spot is worth giving a shot. They serve large portions for fair rates. Always neat and with excellent atmosphere. Highly recommended.
MoreSouthgate kimchi is hands down the best kimchi I ever had. Southgate spicy pickles are my source of comfort. I believe it's because Southgate slathers their pickles in joy. So while the chicken wings are lovely - the Southgate banchan is what I crave!
MoreKorean food here - super good. The bill was reasonable. Reminds me of a place in New York I loved to visit.
MoreWonderful staff, delicious food, a must-try neighborhood treasure.
Very good bibimbap bowls and an excellent burger. Great drinks as well!
Good vibe/decor. Def get the hot chicken sandwich and Southgate fries - they're greasy AF but taste AMAZING!!!
MoreGreat food and excellent service. The food was delicious and timely. Our mixed drinks were perfect and the bartenders were very friendly. This is one of the best Korean fusion places I have found. Their happy hour specials are also worth checking out.
MoreTerrible dining experience. Food did not taste fresh. Serve was incredibly slow. Very, very loud inside, forget trying to have a conversation with your dining partner. The manager, I believe his name was Peter, was very condescending when approached that the food didn’t taste fresh. Will not be returning and I definitely do not recommend this place to anyone.
MoreThe quarantine take-out menu is so well put together—I highly recommend the soy wings and beef lettuce wraps. Grateful to have eaten inside, too, and had a great experience each time. The staff is friendly and the menu is delicious—I've never ordered anything I didn't love. Five stars for sure.
MoreAt the moment you arrive in that restaurant the waiters give you a comfortable feeling. Very warm stuff, it is a good place to pass time with your friends or with your date. delightful cuisine, creative chief cook and stuff, decent cost and courteous service. Highly recommended.
MoreDelicious food, great setting, and amazing staff. We were fortunate enough to be there during restraunt week and the menu really gave us a chance to experience a lot of what they had. Would be perfect for date night, dinner with friends, or just because you wanted to treat yourself.
MoreGreat food and service! One of the best Korean barbecue I've ever tried! I will definitely go back!
MoreI want to like this place. I am Korean. However, especially their brunch menu just does not execute the couple times I went. Some were completely unseasoned, some were way too salty. Dinner and late night food, though are great.
MoreSouthgate has been a welcome addition to the neighborhood with solid Korean style grub. The Galbi and their spicy Korean crispy chicken are not to be missed! The service is a bit lackluster but the food and drinks are fairly priced for the portion sizes. They have outdoor seating and are positioned on a good corner to people watch.
MoreOne of the gems in the Rittenhouse/grad hospital area. Food was incredible, especially the bulgogi burger (one of the best burgers in the city), spicy fried chicken sandwich, and pork dumplings. Cocktails are also amazing.
More"Korean fried chicken" is not authentic, it was just over-fried hammered chicken wings, not the crispy yet juicy wings they should be. Calamari was mostly batter and little calamari. Brussels were over-sweetened. Bibimbop was only very good dish we had.
MoreVery good place. You should come enough times to try the whole menu.
Great food, great people! Some of the best Korean food in Philly!
BRUNCH! Lots of people know Southgate as a great dinner location, but where they really shine, in my opinion, is their brunch (available Saturday and Sunday only). Think traditional brunch staples, but with a Korean twist (e.g., bibimbap omelette, green tea waffles with Korean fried chicken). There are also somewhat less breakfasty, but delicious items like soft tacos with tofu, and a bulgogi burger; and although it seems odd to mention in a review, this place makes the most delicious hash browns of any place I've been in the city! The kimchi Bloody Mary is a must (best Bloody Mary I've ever had, and a perfect start to a Sunday afternoon!), and of course the beer selection is great, if you like your brunch to be on the festive side.
MoreOnly stopped in for light apps and drinks but they were good. I would go back to try a few more items.
MoreExcellent food and drinks, and even better staff! Hosts and servers could not have been more kind and accommodating. Really made us feel welcome.
MoreFood was ok. Service was ok
Great food, fantastic drinks, friendly staff in a cute, hospitable setting makes this restaurant so popular. And rightly so! Wanted to try everything on the menu, so will be back. 😁
MoreNice service, interesting drinks. Hot chicken sandwich was spicy enough, but batter and chicken overcooked. Fry sauce was good
MoreHad the beef dolsot bibimbap! It was very good. Love the cocktail and beer selection. Would love if they played K-pop on their TVs!
MoreSome of the best fried chicken I've ever had!
This cozy nook of a bar and restaurant is a real treasure of the space between Rittenhouse and Graduate Hospital. The drinks are inventive and the food exciting with a late night happy hour to boot. The bulgogi burger hits the spot at any time of day, and the mystery beer adds a bit of fun to your experience.
MoreGreat atmosphere, perfect/fun music selection, absolutely delicious food and drinks (the cocktails are fantastic!), and wonderful, friendly, cheerful service. So glad to have this place in the neighborhood!
MoreCute and delicious. I had the bulgogi burger and my friend had the bibimbop. My only disappointment was in myself for ordering something so boring and American, but the bulgogi flavor in the beef was unique and delicious and I really enjoyed the burger.
MoreGreat food with a variety of flavors. The Kim chi was spicy and the hot stone pot was very nice. As the name suggests, the food was hot till the last bite. The staff were very friendly and helpful in choosing the dish.
Moredefinitely over ordered, their potions are pretty big. cool set up where you can see the game at the bar from your table.
MoreGreat food! delicious
The food is tasty, the staff is kind and friendly and the service is fast and prompt!
MoreInteresting cocktails and delicious Korean food! Never disappoints.
Great location nice service but mediocre flavours. I had both dinner and brunch at Southgate. it a a nice place but sadly the food is disappointing. a scramble that is a bit runny and flavourless or 2 tiny brunch tacos lost on a if plate of (frozen) fries with only kimchi and fried tofu, the avocado mentioned on the menu is just in a cream sauce. Again nothing bad but so much better could be done.
MoreHere you can- Enjoy what appears to be some korean fusion in a bar restaurant setting, at the bar, table, alone or with a small group, coworkers or a date. My ratings are based on a scale of 1 to 5 stars where1 star is tragic and 5 is Ouuwww terrific Overall ratings- 4.5 starsCustomer service- 5 stars. Bartender was patient and explained not only the menu but some Korean background on some of the menu items. Food taste- I LOVED the spice of the Korean Chic Sandwich and the other items I had were great 5 stars!Ambiance- 3 stars laid back corner bar vibes. Everyone stuck to who they came with. Wouldn't come here to meet new people tho.Decor- 4 stars. Basic clean lines bar restaurant. CleanlinessCleanliness- 4 stars but the bathroom is very well stocked and handy.
MoreA favorite place for tasty Korean food. Went there on a Friday I think. The bill was fair for the quality of food.
MoreI love this place. The food, the drinks, the staff, it's a great, casual spot in my hood!
MoreWhoa! If you like Korean food, in particular KFC (Korean fried chicken) then this is one to try!! My heart is still true to Eden's in Cherry Hill, but if I can't make it across the bridge this is in my top 5!! This neighborhood pub on Lombard street is nicely fusing eclectic American with traditional Korean food. Their cocktails are inventive as well, just try out their answer back to the Irish car bomb, a Sapporo Japanese beer served with a shot of Soju! U-wa!!! Make reservations if you can because the place is really small but intimate and comfy!
MoreFood was alright.Pork bun was too plain, too much potato as filling and it overwhelmed the taste. The short rib stew was not served hot, it was just like warm.Fried rice is good, but felt like it’s missing some seasoning.Sea bass was good, but the scales weren’t cleaned off completely, I had to remove the fish skin.Lastly, the best dish was the wings and dessert. The peach panna cotta is fantastic, but I don’t think it’s Korean dessert. 🤔
MoreFood was great so was customer service
